Sown your cabbage seeds and now playing the waiting game? Don’t worry — you’re right on schedule. Cabbage seeds are reliable germinators when given the right environment, but understanding what to expect and when will help you stay patient and proactive.

How Long Does It Take?

Under optimal conditions, cabbage seeds germinate in 5–10 days. Cooler or drier environments can delay sprouting by a few more days.

Ideal germination conditions:

  • Soil temperature between 18–22°C (65–72°F)
  • Lightly moist, not soggy, soil
  • Even light exposure (not direct sunlight)

If it’s been over 12 days with no action, check that:

  • The seeds weren’t buried too deep (¼ inch is ideal)
  • The soil hasn’t dried out at any point
  • The temperature is staying in the right range

What to Look For

  • Tiny green loops breaking the soil = success!
  • The first pair of rounded cotyledons (seed leaves) appear first
  • True leaves — serrated, cabbage-like — will follow in another week

Avoid disturbing the soil or overwatering during this period. Once germination begins, the most fragile part of the plant’s life has started.

No need to guess with AiFarming: Based on your sowing date and local temperature trends, AiFarming tracks expected germination windows and alerts you if something might be wrong — so you can act before it’s too late.
