How to Store Beet

  • Fresh beets can be refrigerated for 5 to 7 days.
  • To preserve freshness, trim the tops of the beets, leaving about 1 inch of stem on each beet, and store the greens separately.
  • For extended storage in a root cellar, remove any soil from the roots, and layer them in dry sand or sawdust, ensuring they do not touch each other.
  • Find a cool, dry place for storage. An unheated closet or a cooler in the basement can work well. Check out new methods for storing beets in a root cellar.
  • Sprouting is a sign of poor storage and can lead to decay.
  • Beets can also be preserved through freezing, canning, and pickling.
