Prepare the soil by pouring the compost into the top 3 inches (8 cm) of soil. Seeds can be planted in spring as soon as the soil can be worked. You can plant additional seeds every 3 weeks as long as the cool weather lasts.
Harvest the leaves when they are 2 to 3 inches long. This will be achieved in 2 or 3 weeks after the plants germinate. Make sure to cut individual leaves or the the whole plant. You can also use the flowers in your salad.
