Plant description

The orange is the fruit of the citrus species. Originating in Southeast Asia, oranges already were cultivated in China as far back as 2500 BC. Between the late fifteenth century and the beginnings of the sixteenth century, Italian and Portuguese merchants brought orange trees in the Mediterranean area. The Spanish introduced the sweet orange to the American continent in the mid-1500s. Orange trees are widely grown in tropical and subtropical climates for their sweet fruit, which can be eaten fresh or processed to obtain juice, and for the fragrant peel. They have been the most cultivated tree fruit in the world since 1987 and sweet oranges account for approximately 70% of the citrus production. In 2010, 68.3 million tonnes of oranges were grown worldwide, particularly in Brazil and in the US states of California and Florida.

Sowing Instruction
Orange trees require full sun so make sure the location in your yard gets a good amount of sunlight. Once you find the perfect site make sure there is no weeds or rocks. Remove all debris and weed from the site. Moisten the root of the orange tree and place it in a large bucket of water. This will make sure that the roots absorb as much water as they can. You can leave the tree in the bucket for 1 hour to make sure the root absorbs water. Dig the hole. The depth of the hole should be enough to submerge the potting area of the tree. Fill in the soil. Do this so that the hole is half covered. Then pat the soil firmly to remove any air pockets. Then fill the rest of the hole with water. Allow that to settle and then fill in the rest of the hole with more dirt to complete planting.
